what is small pottery for?

Anything you want! Some pieces have gone to dollhouses, others joined miniature collections, and at least two have been selected to hold cat whiskers. I personally love to have a few in my pockets as I go about my day. They’re a treat for the fingers, a great conversation piece, and you never know when you’ll have an opportunity to make a mini bouquet while out for a walk. I always love to see where my pieces end up so tag me on Instagram if you’re able!

How big are they?

Most pieces are between 3/4” - 1” tall but sometimes I make them even tinier. I do try to add the size range for each set to the descriptions.

are flowers included?

Yes! I always include a set of dried flowers to put in your pottery.

Can they hold water?

Most of my pieces are glazed on the inside and can hold water but occasionally the opening is too small. A good rule of thumb is if it’s difficult to get water into it, it’s also hard to get glaze in. If you’re wondering about a specific piece, feel free to reach out!

How is your clay colored?

I mix mason stains into a white clay body to create the array of colors and ombre sets you see and then cover them with a clear coat of glaze. I do have a handful of colored glazes I like as well so some pieces are colored via glaze. The description of each set will tell you if they’re mason stained clay or colored glaze.

What wheel do you use?

I use the Small Pottery Wheel from Small Ceramics. It’s truly game-changing. I started with a cheap wheel from a different brand and it was fun but barely had any torque. Any time I applied pressure, the wheel would just stop. The Small Pottery Wheel allowed me to take my mini pottery to the next level. I could talk your ear off about it!

How Long does each piece take?

Each piece goes through quite a journey! First I mix mason stain into the clay in most cases, then I hand throw each piece on the wheel (that can take anywhere from 10-20 minutes). Next I let the pieces dry for about a week then they’re bisque fired. I glaze the pieces with a clear coat usually or a colored glaze if the clay was unstained. Then they’re off to the kiln again for a final firing. So from the time of mixing the clay to finished piece is usually about 3-4 weeks.

What type of clay do you use?

I use stoneware clay and often mix in mason stains to get the vibrant colors and ombre sets you’ll see in my photos.

Do you have a tiny kiln?

Not at this time. I love working with my local studio to do the firings. But it’s possible to fire in a microwave! Check out this post by Adam Johnson if you’re interested to see that process in action.

do you sell anywhere in person?

Yes! I love doing markets and update my Instagram with upcoming ones.

are there discounts for buying more than one?

Yes! Use the code SETOF3 at checkout to get a set of 3 for $36. If you’re interested in larger quantities, please reach out!
